AUGUSTA, Maine — Candidates for Maine governor who are raising campaign funds privately face a deadline to report their donations and spending. So far Bruce Poliquin appears to be leading the pack.
The reports must be filed midnight Tuesday.
Poliquin, one of seven Republicans in the primary race, reports total contributions of more than $600,000. Rival Steve Abbott says he’s raised just under $300,000, Matt Jacobson $150,000 and Paul LePage $106,000.
Democrat Steve Rowe reported raising more than $424,000 as of April 20. One other Democrat, Rosa Scarcelli, is also raising funds privately.
Two Democrats and one Republican are eligible for public campaign money.
Poliquin said that with in-kind contributions, he’s raised to more than $860,000.
