With research in recent years espousing the health benefits of chocolate — from its antioxidant properties to its serotonin-boosting qualities — you’ll be forgiven if you write off your chocolate fix as part of a healthful diet. While the sweet treat is best in moderation, you’ll nonetheless learn the ins and outs of making chocolates at Woodlawn Museum’s Chocolate Turtles and Truffles workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the museum. Join Heather Fowler of Heather’s Whoopie Pies in a two-hour class, in which participants will make an assortment of goodies just in time for Mother’s Day. The workshop is $45 for the general public and $35 for museum members, and all ingredients will be provided. Participants are asked to bring an apron, and nuts will be used. Spring has sprung, and that means Blue Hill restaurant Table: A Farmhouse Bistro, the latest venture from Cleonice chef and James Beard award nominee Rich Hanson and chef Jeff Kelly, has opened for the season. The eatery will unofficially kick off its season with a wine dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 2, featuring Italian wines from Vias Wines and ingredients from within 25 miles of Blue Hill. The meal will start with a reception featuring spring-dug parsnip crostini and oysters with mignonette, paired with Bisol Crede Prosecco. A sit-down second course features crab soup and spinach nudi paired with a Terredora Greco di Tufo, house-made rillettes and pates paired with Castello Meleto Chianti Classico, and prime rib from the Blue Hill Blondes paired with a yet-to-be-determined wine. For dessert, there’s a Harmony Mills ricotta cake and rhubarb compote paired with Marenco Brachetto. It surely will be an evening to remember. Many farmers markets begin their regular season this weekend. The Unity Farmers’ Market kicks off the morning of Saturday, May 1, with the farmers market and a free community yard sale. To reserve a free spot at the sale, call 948-9005. The Orono Farmers’ Market will move to its summer home at the University of Maine Steam Plant parking lot this Saturday as well, and it will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Belfast Farmers’ Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, as will the Newport Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market. The Pittsfield Farmers’ Market will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 3. There’s now a little bit of classic eastern Maine in the trendiest part of southern Maine: Pat’s Pizza has opened its twelfth Maine location in the Old Port in Portland, as of Monday, April 26. The Portland Pat’s is located at 30 Market St., and will feature the same menu favorites as most of the other franchises.
