Will Orrington be treated well under the clean-up plan voters approved?

Last week, residents voted to accept a plan to clean the former HoltraChem Manufacturing Co. site supported by town selectmen instead of a more extensive clean-up

recommended by the state Department of Environmental Protection. Twenty-five years from now, will the site be safe? Did residents choose the best possible deal? Will

Mallinckrodt, last owner of the site, come through as it has pledged? Or will another company be on the hook for the contamination a few years from now? Should the federal government beef up a fund to pay for cleaning up contaminated sites such as these?
