Bradford lifts Husson by UMF for East division title

BANGOR, Maine — Shelby Bradford of Lee scored six goals and assisted on one Sunday as the Husson University women’s lacrosse team defeated the University of Maine-Farmington 15-6 to win the North Atlantic Conference East Division title.

In Saturday’s semifinals, Husson beat Thomas College of Waterville 22-4 and UM-Farmington topped Green Mountain College 12-11.

Alex Laniewski had four goals and an assist for the 9-1-1 Eagles against UM-Farmington. Megan Clement scored three goals while Kim Gambon and Alex Huffman both scored a goal.

Jessica Allen led the 4-6 Beavers with three goals. Amie Daniels scored two goals and Anna Rerrick also scored.

Kristen Capen and Nikki Burns combined for three saves on nine shots for the Eagles. Andrea Knox turned away 18 of 33 shots for the Beavers.

Bradford was named tournament MVP. Teammates Caitlyn Butterfield, Clement, Laniewski and Michelle Rancourt were also named to the All-Tournament team along with UMF’s Daniels, Allen, Ashley Wentworth and Jessie LaCasse. Thomas’ Megan Denby and Teshia Cates and Green Mountain’s Bryanna Astor and Amanda Malkin were selected as well.

Mount Ida 16, Maine Maritime 6

At Castine, Paul Battapaglia scored four goals Saturday as Mount Ida College defeated Maine Maritime Academy.

Christopher Kelley led the Mariners with three goals. Wade Mondoux, Toddy Murphy and Andrew DiSalvo also scored single goals.

James McAllison saved 13 of 19 shots for Mount Ida. MMA’s Kevin Boucher turned away 15 of 31 shots.

Mount Ida 17, Husson 3

At Newton Center, Mass., Matthew Savage scored four goals Sunday as 10-6 Mount Ida College cruised past Husson University of Bangor.

Ben Landry scored two goals for the 9-7 Eagles. Mitch Heaps added a goal.
