PORTLAND, Maine — Hundreds gathered Friday to take a stand against sexual violence as part of a “Take Back the Night” rally.

The theme of this year’s march focused on the media, emphasizing that if it stopped portraying women in a negative way, the country and Maine would be one step closer to letting people know it’s OK to talk about sexual assault.

WGME-TV reported the group marched through downtown Portland and in to the Old Port.

The group, Sexual Assault Response Services, says that in Maine, one in five people report they’ve been a victim of rape or sexual assault.
