AUGUSTA, Maine — Applications for the Land and Water Conservation Fund are available from the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.
Last year the fund’s grants provided $267,485 for municipal outdoor recreation facility development or acquisition projects.
“This program provides funding for local communities for outdoor recreational facilities, while also providing new economic opportunities,” Mick Rogers, BPL’s supervisor of outdoor recreation, said in a news release. “There was a significant increase in interest for this grant opportunity in the past year.”
Land and Water Conservation Fund money is made available to the BPL through the fiscal year 2011 National Park Service budget. Municipalities can apply for assistance of up to 50 percent funding with a maximum of $75,000 in federal assistance for any one project.
Applications must be submitted by Aug. 26. A pre-approval site inspection by a BPL representative must be made to qualify the proposed site for funding. Requests for site inspection should be made before June 29.
