Corinna man faces charge in assault

CORINNA, Maine — A local man was charged with aggravated assault Thursday night after he allegedly punched another man in the head several times.

Marc Ricker, 33, assaulted a 35-year-old man from Cambridge, whose name was withheld, in the St. Albans Road driveway of a mutual friend about 7:15 p.m., Maine State Police Trooper Christopher Cookson said late Thursday night.

Cookson said the victim was treated at a local hospital and then released. He said the man’s injuries might have included a broken bone or broken bones in his face.

After the assault, Ricker left the area, Cookson said. Ricker did, however, agree to meet with Cookson after the trooper called Ricker’s cell phone. Afterward, Ricker was placed under arrest. He was released from the Newport Police Department.

According to Cookson, what triggered the assault was not yet clear. He said the two men had a conflict and Newport police recently had received a complaint that the two had been tailgating each other’s vehicles.

Ricker is scheduled to appear at the Penobscot Judicial Center on July 7.
