PORTLAND, Maine — Transportation officials in Maine have created a new website to keep the public informed during construction of a replacement for the heavily traveled and aging Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Construction on the new bridge, which serves as a connector between Interstate 295 and Portland’s West End, begins in June. It is slated to open to traffic in the summer of 2012.

The Department of Transportation has launched a website, www.veteransmemorialbridge.org, that includes timelines, maps, images and other details about the $63 million project.

The transportation department says it is the state’s largest transportation project this year.
