ADA PATTEN

CARIBOU and HOULTON -Ada Patten, 101, passed away peacefully April 17, 2010, at a Houlton nursing home. Ada was born Nov. 7, 1908, in Washburn, daughter of Charles E. and Flora Dodge Smith. Ada attended Aroostook Teachers College and taught for 26 years at Teague Park School, Caribou. She retired from teaching in 1976. As a young woman, she was a member of Dunntown Advent Christian Church. She was later a member of Caribou United Baptist Church for 43 years. Ada was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Education Society, Retired Teacher’s Association and Caribou United Baptist Church’s Rebecca Missions Circle. Ada was predeceased by her parents; by her husband, Robert Patten, in 1961; and by her brothers and sisters, Eugene Smith, Lula Wood, Benjamin Smith and Carolyn Jackson. Ada raised three daughters and one son, Paula Clark of Easton, Carol Stockley of Houlton, Beverly LaPoint of Augusta and Richard McCrossin of Augusta. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There will be a graveside service 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Fairview Cemetery, Perham, with the Rev.
