Guilford man dies in Abbot car crash

Updated:

ABBOT, Maine — A Guilford man died early Sunday morning when he was ejected from his 2008 Chevy Aveo after it left Back Abbot Road.

Charles Emery, 33, was southbound about 3:40 a.m. when he apparently lost control while going around a curve, according to James Kane, an investigator with the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office.

Emery had left a residence on Back Abbot Road shortly before the accident, Kane said Sunday night. The car struck and broke a utility pole before it headed across a ditch and came to rest against a large tree.

The victim did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt, Kane said.

Kane said Emery had been living in Guilford but grew up in the Abbot area.
