BANGOR, Maine — Katrin Teel on Thursday announced her run for a seat in the Maine House of Representatives from District 17 in Bangor.

“I am running because I am concerned about the direction Maine is heading. We are among the highest-taxed people in the nation and we simply can no longer afford it,” the Republican said in announcing her candidacy on tax day. “We must stop this unconscionable assault on our pocketbooks and our paychecks. We need fiscal restraint and accountability.”

Teel is a registered nurse with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Husson University. She teaches in the allied health department at Beal College. Her nonprofit experience includes three years as director of the Wellness Council of Maine housed in the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce.

District 17 is represented now by Rep. Sara Stevens, a Democrat.
