Franklin house trailer destroyed in blaze

FRANKLIN, Maine — Fire destroyed a house trailer on Macomber Mill Road Wednesday afternoon.

The call came in at about 3:30 p.m., according to Franklin Fire Chief Robert Grindle. The blaze at the home of Richard and Katrina Ryan was discovered by a teenage boy on his way home from school, Grindle said.

The house trailer, located about 400 feet off the road, was in flames when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. There was little that they could do to save the trailer at that point, the fire chief said. Firefighters were unable to determine how and where the blaze started, he said.

“It was so far gone, you’d never find the cause,” he said.

The trailer, which was a total loss, was not insured. The Ryans will stay with relatives for a few days until they figure out what to do, Grindle said.

Franklin firefighters were assisted at the scene by crews from Eastbrook, Hancock and Sullivan, and a crew from Sorrento covered the Franklin station.
