Police are investigating a trio of burglaries in Jackson, Troy and Freedom that were reported over the weekend and Monday.

Detective Jason Bosco of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said one of the burglarized properties was an old hunting camp in Jackson, which may have been broken into over the winter. Propane heaters were stolen, he said.

A vacant house in Troy was burglarized sometime in the last week, he said, and reported to police Saturday. In that instance, would-be thieves apparently attempted to steal some copper from the home.

A third burglary most likely occurred over the weekend at a construction site in Freedom. Tools were stolen, Bosco said.

A man who met a couple of new acquaintances Sunday night at a Belfast bar said he was violently assaulted and robbed by them early Monday morning, according to police.

Chase Breen, 21, of Rockland was arrested Monday and charged with robbery, assault and violating conditions of release. His brother Corey Breen, 22, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with violation of conditions of release.

The victim told police he met the brothers at a bar where he had been buying drinks with $100 cash. They were walking together on Miller Street at 1 a.m. when the encounter took an unfriendly turn.

“They wanted his money and attacked him and told him to give them his money,” said Detective Bryan Cunningham of the Belfast Police Department.

In the attack, the victim suffered bruises and abrasions. A police photograph showed him with a badly bloodied and swollen face.

After the attack, the victim told police he returned to his home and his neighbor’s girlfriend urged him to report the attack. The neighbor called 911 and the victim was taken to Waldo County General Hospital. He was treated and later released.

Cunningham said only Chase Breen was charged with robbery and assault, but more charges may be pending.

Chase Breen has prior convictions for domestic assault in Belfast in 2007 and 2008.

The brothers were arraigned Monday morning in Belfast District Court.
