Topless shop owner had run-in with arson suspect

The Associated Press

VASSALBORO, Maine — The owner of a topless coffee shop in central Maine says he had a run-in shortly after opening his business with the man who is suspected of burning his shop to the ground.

Donald Crabtree said that 49-year-old Raymond Bellavance Jr. came into his Grand View Topless Coffee Shop in Vassalboro last March threatening to have the shop shut down if Crabtree didn’t fire Bellavance’s ex-girlfriend, who was a waitress.

Crabtree said he refused Bellavance’s demand because the woman hadn’t done anything wrong.

Police are now looking for Bellavance after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with arson for last June’s fire that destroyed the coffee shop. Crabtree has since reopened his shop in a trailer.
