Police arrest Mapleton man after high-speed pursuit

By Jen Lynds, BDN Staff

MAPLETON, Maine — A Mapleton man who refused to stop for police on Tuesday evening is facing several charges.

State police Sgt. Brian Harris said Wednesday that the incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m., when Trooper Todd Stetson tried to stop a truck on Route 163 in Mapleton after the driver committed a traffic violation.

The driver of the truck, Douglas Gough, 41, refused to stop, Harris said.

A short pursuit ensued through secondary roads around Mapleton with speeds reaching 80 mph. The chase ended when Gough pulled into a driveway in Mapleton and ran into the residence.

Stetson entered the home and subsequently arrested Gough for operating a motor vehicle after license suspension, driving to endanger, eluding an officer and criminal speeding.

Gough was taken to Presque Isle Police Department. He posted bail and was released.

Harris said the investigation is continuing, and further charges are possible.

Stetson was assisted by Harris and Trooper Shawn Querze.
