2 occupants unhurt after Caribou house fire

CARIBOU, Maine — Firefighters remained on the scene Sunday night after a fire Easter Sunday destroyed a home on Thibodeau Road.

According to firefighter Brian Lajoie, two people whose names were unavailable late Sunday were home when the fire started in the building’s wall.

The call came into the Caribou Fire Department at 2:49 p.m., and by the time fire crews arrived on the scene, Lajoie said, it was a full-blown fire.

β€œThe wind picked up so it got out of control quickly,” he said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the home and spare two nearby buildings. Both occupants and two dogs escaped the home safely.

Twenty-five firefighters with three units helped fight the blaze. The Caribou department received mutual aid from the Washburn and Presque Isle fire departments.

The home is a total loss and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
