PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle police were searching over the weekend for two men who reportedly robbed the Budget Traveler Hotel at gunpoint early Saturday morning.

According to information released by the Presque Isle Police Department, two men dressed entirely in black and wearing ski masks entered the lobby of the hotel at 3 a.m. Saturday, pointed a gun at the night clerk and demanded all the money in the cash register.

The two then ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash, and the clerk immediately called 911 to report the incident.

Presque Isle police Sgt. Mark Barnes and Officers Peter Johnson and Kevin Reed were joined in the search by Maine State Trooper Dan Deschaine and members of the U.S. Border Patrol.

A search of the area on Saturday failed to turn up the suspects, and the department’s bloodhound, Hunter, and his handler, Officer Kevin Schumacher, were called in to join the search.

Police said evidence was collected at the scene, and the investigation was continuing on Sunday.
