CONCORD, N.H. — Officials say up to 170 acres of New Hampshire and Maine’s White Mountain National Forest is planned for burning this spring.

Periodic burning in the forest helps maintain habitat for feeding, nesting and cover for many wildlife species.

The Forest Service plans to burn areas in the towns of Benton, Easton, Ellsworth, Conway, Berlin, Randolph, Milan and Gorham, and in the Maine towns of Gilead and Albany Township.

The burn sites range from three to 50 acres.
