OTTER CREEK and BAR HARBOR – Margaret “Peggy” Clair Hagerthy, 84, died March 31, 2010, at a Mount Desert Island hospital. She was born May 29, 1925, in Orland, the daughter of Samuel A. and Marion S. (Snowman) Holway. Peggy lived in Otter Creek for many years. She had a 35-year career at First National Bank of Bar Harbor. In her spare time, one of her favorite loves was gardening. She had both flower and vegetable gardens. After moving to Bar Harbor, she continued to have flowers in window boxes and containers on her deck. She had been an active member of United Church of Christ of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Joyce McFarland and husband, Jim, of Bar Harbor; grandchildren, Michael McFarland, Sarah McEachern and husband, Matt, and Bethany Reece and husband, Mat; and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Lindsey McEachern, and Gabriel McFarland and Calie Reece. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Maynard Hagerthy, in 1991; three sisters, Doris McNally, Pauline Potter and Virginia Applebee; and three brothers, Paul and Samuel Holway and Leland Leach. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, with the Rev. William J. “Mac” Bigelow Jr. officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor. Those who desire may make contributions in Margaret’s memory to Union Congregational Church of Northeast Harbor, P.O.
