ALFRED, Maine — A 39-year-old Maine man is being held without bail in the death of his wife, who died in what prosecutors say was an act of domestic violence.

Patrick Dapolito entered no plea Monday in his initial court appearance in York County Superior Court. He’s charged with fatally shooting his wife, 30-year-old Kelly Winslow-Dapolito, in the head on March 16 at their home in Limington.

According to an affidavit, Dapolito told police he accidentally shot his wife while they were sleeping together on a bathroom floor after he’d gone on a cocaine binge.

He said he put her body in a basement freezer before he and his brother took it to their father’s home in Upton, a small Maine town about 80 miles away.
