CASTINE, Maine — Voters on Saturday approved a $2.5 million project to make infrastructure improvements to roads, sewer lines and water lines in the village area.

The project is the first phase of the town’s effort to correct an estimated $14 million in infrastructure deficiencies that the selectmen propose to remedy in five phases. The vote, after much discussion at the annual town meeting, was unanimous.

Voters also authorized an expenditure from the Witherle Memorial Library endowment fund for a planned addition to the building and voted to return the board of selectmen to a three-member board. That vote negates a vote n November to increase the board of selectmen to five members.
