Icy Washington County roads lead to several auto accidents

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

MACHIAS, Maine — Police in Washington County warned motorists Friday morning to slow down and drive for existing conditions after three vehicles crashed on Route 9.

The county got a 1-inch dusting of snow overnight, and Friday dawned with a layer of ice over everything.

“There was an inch of ice on my cruiser this morning,” Sgt. Jeff Ingemi of the Maine State Police said Friday. “It was very icy this morning.”

The state police covered accidents in Baileyville and Alexander on Friday morning, including a rollover, but neither resulted in injuries.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department covered an accident in Township 29 where a car struck and snapped a utility pole, resulting in minor injuries.
