Accidents reported on snowy roads in Washington County

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

MACHIAS, Maine — Police in Washington County are warning motorists to slow down and drive for existing road conditions after three vehicles crashed this morning on Route 9.

The county got a 1-inch dusting of snow overnight, and Friday dawned with a layer of ice over everything.

“There was an inch of ice on my cruiser this morning,” Sgt. Jeff Ingemi of the Maine State Police said. “It was very icy this morning.”

The state police were covering accidents in Baileyville and Alexander on Friday morning, including a rollover, but neither resulted in injures.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department was covering an accident in Township 29 where a car struck and snapped a utility pole and injuries were reported.

“We are warning motorists to slow down and be careful of icy conditions,” Ingemi said.
