UMPI wins a pair

At Langhorn, Pa., the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls picked up their first two wins of the season, sweeping Philadelphia-Bibical 12-4 and 9-8.
In game one, James Cirell paced the UMPI offense with three singles and four RBIs.
The Owls racked up 18 hits on the game and 33 for the doubleheader.
Corey Harding singled twice and doubled (RBI) while Jake Fillebrown had a couple singles and a double.
In game two, D.J. Charette hit three singles and drove in three runs while Harding had two singles, a double and two RBIs for UMPI.
Josh Conroy contributed four singles while scoring two runs for the Owls.

Softball
USM posts first win of season

At Clermont, Fla., Sarah Deroche drove in the winning run in the top of the seventh and earned the win in the circle as the University of Southern Maine defeated the SUNY-Morrisville Mustangs 5-4 in the second of two games for its first victory of the season.
Wellesley beat USM in the first game 8-2.
In the second game, Deroche struck out six while scattering five runs and seven this to notch the win. Cerise Humphrey had two hits and drove in a run and Heather Gilman doubled.
Cassandra Smith and Aryel Lawson had two hits apiece for the Mustangs.
In the first game, Wellesley pitcher Sarah Schwartzmeyer retired the first 12 USM batters she faced en route to recording a four-hitter.
Deroche hit a two-run double for USM.
