JENSEN BEACH, Fla. – Robert S. Barton made a peaceful journey to heaven March 17, 2010, from his home with loving family by his side. He had a “date” with his girlfriend – his beloved wife of 59 years, Erma B. Barton, who passed in 2007. He was born March 8, 1923, in Lincoln, to Oland and Adelaide Sargent Barton. He attended local schools, Colby College; Maine Maritime Academy, Class of 1944; College of Mortuary Science, Boston; and Mount Ida College. He moved to Jensen Beach, Fla., in 1972. Prior to retirement, Robert was the owner of Barton Funeral Home, Lincoln, for 34 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine. Survivors include son, Bruce and wife, Elaine Barton, of Gloucester, Va.; two granddaughters, Alicia Barton of Lincoln and Jamie Barton of Gloucester, Va.; three grandsons, Andrew Barton of Lincoln, Jayson Barton of Gloucester, Va., and Joshiah Barton of Gloucester, Va.; four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nadia and husband, Guy Leadbetter, of Burlington, Vt.; a special cousin, Wilma Brown of Baltimore; and many special friends.
