MEXICO, Maine — A 66-year-old man from the western Maine town of Mexico has been charged with having child pornography on his computer less than five months after successfully petitioning to be removed from the state’s online sex offender registry.

Larry Smart is charged with possession of sexually explicit material showing a child under the age of 12 engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

According to a police affidavit, Smart came under investigation after police discovered 31 instances of his computer allegedly being used to share pornographic videos.

The Sun Journal of Lewiston says Smart was convicted of gross sexual misconduct in 1985 and was removed from the state’s online sex offender registry last October.
