AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Forest Service and the National Weather Service have issued a red flag warning of the possibility of wildfires for areas near Greenville and Millinocket south to the coastal areas of Hancock County and all of WashingtonCounty.

This warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday and, based on weather conditions, could be issued again Thursday.

The high winds and low relative humidity have created dangerous conditions that could allow wildfires to spread rapidly. Several wildfires have occurred over the last few days, including a 6-acre wildfire in Orland, which threatened two structures.

The Maine Forest Service urges all residents to postpone their outdoor burning until there is a significant rainfall.

To report any wildfires, call 911 or 1-800-750-9777.
