Southern Maine wins two
At Gorham, the University of Southern Maine swept its home-opening doubleheader with St. Joseph’s College-Long Island on Saturday, winning each game by a score of 8-3. In the first game, Mike Eaton hit two doubles, a sin-gle and drove in four runs to lead the Huskies. John Carey doubled and singled while Tucker White had two singles and an RBI. In the second game, David Ricker doubled, singled and knocked in three runs to help spark Southern Maine. Josh Mackey, Collin Henry and Anthony Pisani each posted two singles and an RBI.
Maine Maritime 6, Fisher 1

At Orono, McKenzie Burke put the game out of reach with a three-run home run as Maine Maritime Academy of Castine defeated Fisher College on Saturday. Brittany Hunt hit a triple and a single for the Mariners while Mallery Stanley and Sabrina Keach each drove in a run.
Maine gains Saturday victory
At Clearwater, Fla., the University of Maine lost two of three games at the USF Under Armour Showcase over the weekend. The Black Bears defeated Southern Illinois 5-1 in the first game on Saturday, fell to Saint Joseph’s (Pa.) 4-3 in the second game, and dropped the finale to Pittsburgh 7-5 on Sunday. In Saturday’s first game, Chelsea Soule hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Maine to the win. Terren Hall hit three singles while Whit-ney Spangler added an RBI single. In Saturday’s second game, Kirstin Allen knocked in two runs on a single in a losing effort for the Black Bears. Alexis Souhlaris, Stephanie George and Kristen Calvetti each doubled. In Sunday’s game, Pittsburgh took advantage of four Maine errors to open up an early six-run lead. Souhlaris hit a two-run triple and an RBI single to lead the Black Bears.
Saint Joseph’s wins one of four
At Fort Myers, Fla., Saint Joseph’s College played four games on Saturday, losing the first three of the day and winning the final. The Monks lost by a 3-1 score to both SUNY-Brockport and Wisconsin-Platteville, suffered an 8-0 loss to Wisconsin-Superior, and defeated NYU Polytechnic 4-3. In the first game, Alyssa Dunn hit a solo home run to drive in the lone run for the Monks. Heather Tripp added a double. In the second game, Natasha Howard drove in Saint Joseph’s only run on a single in the seventh. Christy Wezowicz tossed a complete game with five strikeouts and three earned runs allowed. In the third game, Wisconsin-Superior belted three home runs and posted 13 hits en route to the shutout. Maria Labbe posted two singles to pace the Monks. In the fourth game, Liddy van der Lin-den hit a two-run home run to spark Saint Joseph’s to the win. Anna Willis chipped in with a double and a single.
