Three indicted in Aroostook County crime spree

CARIBOU, Maine — Three northern Aroostook County adults who were charged last October with multiple crimes in connection with a string of burglaries and vandalism in the Grand Isle area were indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury Friday.

The crimes allegedly took place over several weeks last fall in Frenchville, Grand Isle and Van Buren. One of them involved damage done to Mizpah, a religious camp in Grand Isle.

All three adults, Kara M. Bouchard, 23, of Frenchville; Travis J. Theriault, 20, of Madawaska; and Casey Daniel Ruest, 19, of Madawaska, were indicted on charges of aggravated criminal mischief, two counts, theft, two counts, and burglary, two counts.

Bouchard also was indicted on separate charges of theft and forgery.

During the crime spree, the accused allegedly damaged property at Mizpah, damaged a Boy Scout cabin and stole a vehicle in Frenchville.

Maine State Police Trooper Shawn Querze investigated the crimes.

Investigators said the damage amounted to approximately $6,000. The value of the stolen property was more than $1,000. The stolen property was recovered.

Three juveniles, who were 13 or 14 years old at the time, also were involved. They were charged with aggravated criminal mischief and theft.

The grand jury on Friday handed up 61 indictments against 59 different people. Other indictments included:

Chad R. Leighton, 29, Caribou, terrorizing, two counts.

Jeaudi W. Landry, 27, Presque Isle, unlawful sexual contact.
