PITTSFIELD, Maine — Months of planning and preparation for a local man will culminate at 5 a.m. Monday when Mickey T’s fitness center opens in Somerset Plaza.

Michael Thompson said Friday that interest in the new gym has been heavy, with many people commenting on the vast improvements over the former gym that occupied the space. That outfit closed late last summer.

“There’s been steady foot traffic in here,” said Thompson while taking a break from vacuuming a locker room. “People who were past members [of the former gym] say they’re in awe.”

Thompson, a 2000 Maine Central Institute graduate, said he has secured about a dozen memberships, but expects a lot more come Monday morning. He hopes his business will appeal to people of all ages who want to use cardiovascular equipment, two racquetball courts, a wallyball court and classes such as yoga and Pilates.

That’s in addition to numerous nearly new weight machines, which Thompson purchased from other gyms that were going out of business.

Thompson said he plans to have a grand opening within the next month. For more information, contact Mickey T’s at 487-5611.
