ROCKLAND, Maine — About one-third of Knox County homes were without power early Friday afternoon, according to Central Maine Power officials.

Of the 24,400 accounts in Knox County, 8,166 were without power as a result of heavy rain and wind Thursday night and into Friday. About 2,200 of those accounts were in Saint George, which was completely without power.

John Carroll, the company spokesman from CMP said that there is no set timeline for restoring the power, and that people closer to main roads will get power back first.

Camden-area schools were in session Friday, but SAD 40 schools were closed because of several road washouts and RSU 13 schools were closed due to power outages.

Trees were uprooted on Limerock Street in Rockland and a roof blew off a Main Street building and into the road. Main Street was closed temporrarily Friday morning but was reopened by afternoon.
