On Friday, golfer Tiger Woods read a prepared statement that included, among other things, an apology to his fans for his extra-marital affairs. Mr. Woods is currently in treatment for sex addiction. Was the apology sincere? Or was it “brand” protection? Is it likely that Mr. Woods has learned it is wrong to believe the rules don’t apply to celebrities like himself? Or was he appealing to his estranged wife? Will he be able to redeem himself as a sports icon?
