Cherewyk leads Terriers in weekend sweep of UM

BOSTON — The Boston University Terriers swept the Maine Black Bears in women’s hockey action over the weekend with a 3-1 victory on Saturday and a 2-0 win on Sunday at Walter Brown Arena.

Melissa Anderson scored second period goals five minutes apart to propel the Terriers on Saturday.

Lauren Cherewyk posted a goal and an assist for Boston University while Anderson also posted an assist. Alissa Fromkin made 20 saves.

Abby Barton staked UMaine (6-19-5, 3-14-3-1 HE) to a 1-0 lead with a first-period goal off a Taryn Peacock assist. Brittany Ott racked up 37 saves.

In Sunday’s game, Cherewyk scored off a pass from Anderson in the second period for BU and Jonnie Bloemers added a power-play goal in the third period.

Melissa Haber made 24 saves for BU and Maine goalie Candice Currier made 28 saves. BU is now 14-8-12 overall and 10-6-5-3 in Hockey East.

Barton fired four shots on goal in her final game for the Black Bears.

Maine finished the season with a 6-20-5 overall record and 3-15-3-1 in Hockey East.
