BANGOR — Steady defensive pressure and an 80-percent shooting effort from the floor in the fourth quarter earned the top-seeded Washington Academy Raiders of East Machias a reservation in Saturday’s Eastern Maine Class C championship game against Calais.

The 19-1 Raiders had four players score 11 points or more in a 68-50 basketball tournament semifinal victory over No. 5 Foxcroft Academy at the Bangor Auditorium Friday afternoon.

Justin Morren and Sam Stevens took care of the inside and Noah Von Rotz and Ben Teer hurt the Ponies from the outside as the Raiders never trailed in the game.

Morren scored 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked two shots while Stevens had 11 points and seven rebounds. Von Rotz scored 19 and Ben Teer added 16.

Josiah Richard led the 16-4 Ponies with 18 points. James Johnson scored 11 and Ian Champeon finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
