SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Bernita M. Larson, 56, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 8, 2010, at her home with her husband at her side. “Bena” was born into a large family in 1953, in Wisconsin, the daughter of Bernhard and Lorene Greiner. Growing up on a small farm in Ellison Bay with eight siblings made a huge impact on her life. Her deep love of family has always been one of the guiding forces of how she lived. While on a high school field trip, she met her future husband, Dave, whom she married in 1972. They had two children and together they spent many years living in various locations around the world. Bena and Dave settled down in Southwest Harbor on their 21st anniversary in 1993. An avid gardener and a cooking connoisseur; Bena dedicated much of her time to being outdoors and to creating the finest meals for her beloved husband, family and friends. She understood that the quality of one’s life is far more important than the amount of time one is allotted. Her laughter and kindness brought much joy to her family and friends. For more than 10 years, her vibrant personality has greeted customers from several main street shops in Southwest Harbor, most recently at Sawyer’s Market. Bena is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Dave; their children, Aldebran Dawn and her family and Orion James and his family; as well as a large extended family. A gathering of family and friends will be held in Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southwest Harbor Butterfly Garden, P.O. Box 263, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
