RUMFORD, Maine — About 100 workers from the NewPage Corp. paper mill in Rumford laid off last year are back on the job and a paper making machine that was shut down in September is running again, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Sun Journal of Lewiston says the restart of the machine that makes coated paper was announced several weeks ago, but it was restarted Monday.

Local union President Matt Bean says there’s finally some good news.

He says about 100 employees have been called back to work.

With the restart of the machine on Monday, all paper making machines and other major departments are running, including the pulp dryer and a machine that was never idled.
