BANGOR, Maine – Liz Goodall scored 17 points, including nine in the second quarter, as the No. 3 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook girls basketball team rolled to a 67-39 victory over No. 6 Deer Isle-Stonington Monday morning in an Eastern Maine Class D quarterfinal game at the Bangor Auditorium.
The Warriors, now 16-2, will face the winner of Monday’s quarterfinal between 2 Fort Fairfield and No. 7 Shead of Eastport in a semifinal Thursday.
Southern Aroostook was up by five points at the end of the first quarter but forced seven Mariner turnovers in the second quarter and took a 28-12 lead into halftime. The second half was more of the same as Deer Isle-Stonington struggled against the taller and quicker Warriors.
Southern Aroostook had four players in double figures with Lauren McGary scoring 14 points, Jasmine Rockwell adding 13 and Goodall’s sister, Evangeline Goodall chipping in with 10. Shelby Hartin had a game-high 15 rebounds.
Rockwell was 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Chelsea Brown led the way for DI-S with 14 points and Britnie Jones had 12.
The Mariners, who were making their first appearance in the tournament since 1989, finish the season with an 11-8 record.
