MACHIAS, Maine — Two people were arrested Friday afternoon after an attempted home burglary on Harwood Street, police said.

A report of a fight in progress drew police attention. When they arrived they discovered that the front door to a home had been damaged and several people were threatening each other.

Police Chief Grady Dwelley said that the people involved were in a dispute over the ownership of some property.

Dwelley said a 17-year-old male was arrested for burglary and taken to Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston.

Arrested on a warrant from Aroostook County was Chana Elliott, 26. Dwelley said charges of burglary also are pending against Elliott.

Dwelley said he was assisted by Maine State Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident remains under investigation, Dwelley said, and further charges may be lodged.
