Love is in the air. Or maybe that’s garlic. Anyway, Valentine’s Day is coming up quickly, and if you’re planning something special for your sweetie — or taking yourself out on a date — there are plenty of things to do for a foodcentric evening. Godfrey’s Grille at the Four Points Sheraton at Bangor International Airport will offer a special V-Day menu Feb. 12-14, featuring Roast Prime Rib, Shrimp and Lobster Stuffed Filet of Sole and Sauteed Breast of Chicken Provencal; for reservations, call 947-6721. The Fiddlehead Restaurant on Hammond Street in Bangor will offer a selection of valentine specials from 4 to 9 p.m. on the big day; call 942-336 to reserve a table. Farther south, Natalie’s in Camden will offer a special val-entine menu, include a three-course meal and unique cocktails. Reservations are strongly recommended; call 236-7008. Finally, Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville will hold a chocolate and wine-pairing event from noon to 3 p.m. on Feb. 14. Coastline Confections will pair Cellardoor wines with different chocolates. Home economics has largely disappeared from classrooms across the country. Knowing how to prepare food, however, is a skill desperately needed by a generation that grew up on prepackaged, processed, unhealthful foods. The Dinner Store in Brewer seeks to help area students learn some of those skills this week, with its first February Vacation camp, “Kids in the Kitchen: Basics to Build On.” Dinner Store owners Alison and Stan Small will lead groups of eight students in grades five to eight in two different sessions Monday-Friday, Feb. 15-19, at the store at 71 Center St.. The classes are set for either 8:30 a.m. to noon or 1:30 to 5 p.m. Students will make meat or cheese ravioli, homemade bread, a salad and homemade salad dressing, apple pie and a snack of soft pretzels. They also will build a miniature herb garden, which can be planted later for fresh basil, oregano and parsley all spring and summer long. The cost for all five classes is $125, and includes a cooking kit, all materials, a snack each day, and a four-person meal students can bring home to their family on Friday. Maine Restaurant Week is set for March 1-10, and the Maine Restaurant Association has announced the list of more than 90 restaurants that will participate. Each will offer a three-course meal for $20.10, $30.10 or $40.10. The majority of restaurants taking part in Maine Restaurant Week are in the Portland area. In eastern Maine, participating restaurants include Anglers Seafood Restaurants in Hampden, Searsport and Newport; Brevetto Kitchen, Cappy’s Chowder House, Paolina’s Way, the Hartstone Inn and Natalie’s in Camden; Cafe Miranda, In Good Company and Lily Bistro in Rockland; and the Sea Dog Brewing Company and Thistles in Bangor.
