BANGOR, Maine — A power outage brought activity at Bangor International Airport, the Four Points by Sheraton Bangor Airport Hotel, and the nearby L.L. Bean call center to a grinding halt for more than three hours Friday night.

The outage, which was blamed on equipment malfunction, was reported about 6 p.m., Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. spokeswoman Susan Faloon confirmed Friday night.

“It’s not a major outage but it is affecting the airport and the hotel and the call center,” Faloon said.

An international arrival plane and other flights were affected by the outage, she said.

Some people were stranded aboard at least one plane because a passenger boarding bridge, which is powered by electricity, could not be moved.

Faloon said that Bangor Hydro repair crews were at the airport within 10 minutes of the outage. Shortly afterward, repair workers thought they had the problem solved but then discovered it was more extensive than it appeared.

Though Faloon didn’t have an exact time for power to be restored, she said at about 9:15 p.m. that crews didn’t expect the outage to last too much longer.
