LEWISTON, Maine — Some folks like to fish through a hole in the ice. Kevin and Tanya Ouellette enjoy that, as well. But they also enjoy the comforts of home — wood floors, TV, surround sound — in their “ice shack” on Maine’s Sabbattus Pond.

The Ouellettes tell the Sun Journal that they’re enjoying their home that rests on a foot of ice so much that they’ve spent 11 nights on the lake so far this winter. They’ll zip home occasionally — but only for a warm shower.

The Ouellettes’ shack features a full kitchen, two televisions, wood stove and bathroom. Kevin Ouellette calls it the “Shangri-La.”

Warmer weather forced the pair off the ice earlier this week, but they’ll be back as soon as it’s safe.
