DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — More than 230 high school students from 17 different schools will converge this weekend at Foxcroft Academy for the District V Honors Music Festival.

Schools participating include Bangor High School, Bangor Christian Schools, Central High School, Dexter Regional High School, Foxcroft Academy, Hampden Academy, Hermon High School, John Bapst Memorial High School, Lee Academy, Mattanawcook Academy, Orono High School, Penobscot Valley High School, Piscataquis Community High School, Schenck High School, Searsport District High School and Stearns High School.

There will be three different ensembles featured in the festival — a band, a choir and a string orchestra.

“Obviously it’s fairly significant. I kind of view it as a small, sort of a slightly more local version, of the All State Music Festival, which also has a band, choir and orchestra,” Shane Ellis, FA’s music director, said Wednesday.

Ellis said it has been years since FA hosted the annual event, which brings students with similar interests together in a collaborative manner, instead of for competition. He said the festival provides a “wonderful opportunity” for schools with smaller bands, choirs and orchestras to play with large groups.

Students will rehearse on Friday and Saturday with their ensembles’ respective guest directors. The festival will end with a public concert at 4 p.m. Saturday in the FA gymnasium. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. There
