Largest rainbow trout ever in Maine confirmed

The Associated Press

CANAAN, Maine — Maine wildlife officials say a Skowhegan man has caught the largest rainbow trout ever in Maine.

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says it has confirmed that a 7-pound trout caught by Michael Thebarge on Lake George in Canaan is a record. Thebarge caught the fish on Feb. 6, 2009, and had it weighed on a certified scale, but it wasn’t until last week that he contacted state biologists and the Maine Sportsman newspaper, which maintains the state record book.

The previous rainbow trout record was a 6.5-pound fish caught in the Androscoggin River in 2007.
