EDMUNDS TOWNSHIP, Maine — The “Winter Family Fun Day” to be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Cobscook Bay State Park in Edmunds Township is the first event of its kind to be held at the coastal park, Park Manager Matt McGuire said in a press release from the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.
The Winter Family Fun Day is designed to show that the park is a four-season facility, and with its numerous groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails — some of which go along the shores of Cobscook Bay — it is an exceptional recreational site even in the winter.
Activities for the daylong event will include sledding and cross-country skiing. The park’s trails are groomed for both activities. The cross-country ski trails in particular are groomed for both classical and skate-style skiing. Ice-skating will be offered on 1-acre Headquarters Pond. A fire ring will be in place near the pond, so nonskaters can stay warm and watch the activity.
Park maintenance coordinator Wayne Seeley is organizing birdhouse building for youngsters, and Smokey Bear has planned a visit during the day.
All equipment for the activities will be provided, and anyone who needs help will be able to get expert instruction, McGuire added.
Admission is $1.50 for those 12 to 64; children and seniors, free. Lunch is included.
