ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, Maine — A cross-country skier whose body was found early Friday afternoon on a trail at the south end of Eagle Lake appears to have died of natural causes, according to a park ranger.
The man, identified as Kenneth Leighton, 53, of Trenton, was found around 12:30 p.m. by two women who were skiing along the same section of trail, Ranger Kevin Donnell said Friday.
Leighton was by himself and there was no indication that he had skied off the trail or had any other type of accident, according to the ranger. There is nothing suspicious about the incident, he said.
Donnell said there were plenty of skiers Friday in the park near Eagle Lake but that the ungroomed section of trail where the man’s body was found had not been heavily traveled. Had the women not been skiing in the area at the same time, he said, it could have been awhile before he was found.
