BANGOR — The Bangor Rams gave the undefeated Skowhegan Indians all they could handle, but Hillary Throckmorton’s 3-point attempt with eight seconds left rimmed out and Skowhegan’s Mackenzie Smith hit a free throw to seal a 42-38 schoolgirl basketball victory Thursday night at Red Barry Gym.
After the Indians’ Adrienne Davis missed two free throws with 14 seconds left, Throckmorton had a wide-open look from the right wing but the shot wouldn’t stay down.
Whitney Jones led all scorers with 16 points for 13-0 Skowhegan, 12 of which came in the second half.
Bangor, which dips to 5-7, played tenacious man-to-man defense throughout the night, limiting the Indians’ open looks at the hoop.
Kate Treadwell paced the Rams with 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots while Throckmorton added 10 points.
