Suspect in domestic assault turns himself in to police

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

MACHIAS, Maine — Curtis Campbell, 30, turned himself in to police Wednesday afternoon and was arrested on a charge of domestic assault.

The charge stemmed from an incident that occurred about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday during which Campbell allegedly choked a female victim.

Police from three agencies had been searching throughout the night and all day Wednesday for Campbell.

According to Machias police Officer Ryan Allen, the victim called police late Tuesday and accused Campbell of choking her. She was taken to Downeast Community Hospital for treatment and later was released.

Campbell could not be located after the incident, and a search was launched.

Machias Chief Grady Dwelley, Officers Allen and Aaron Robinson, Maine State Police and Washington County Sheriff’s Department deputies all participated in the search.

Campbell voluntarily turned himself in at the sheriff’s department and remained Wednesday night in Washington County Jail.
