BELFAST, Maine — Police last week found a wanted Vermont man at a local motel, along with his girlfriend and a truck the two allegedly stole from Florida.

David Gose, 47, of Burlington, Vt., was arrested Thursday at Admirals Ocean Inn on Route 1 after the Belfast Police Department got a tip from a probation officer in Vermont. Belfast Officer Bryan Cunningham said Gose was arrested on a charge of being a fugitive from justice from Vermont and on a charge of operating under the influence from Oxford County.

Gose and girlfriend Lynn Jackson, 32, of Fort Walton, Fla., also were charged with receiving stolen property. The two apparently had driven north from Florida in a stolen 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck, Cunningham said.

“They’d been drinking in a bar with an old guy. The keys were on the bar,” the officer said. “Later, he noticed his truck keys were gone, and looked out and saw the truck was gone, too.”

Jackson and Gose were taken to Waldo County Jail, but Jackson made her $100 bail. Gose, who was still behind bars Tuesday afternoon, likely will be taken first to court in Oxford County to answer to the OUI charge and later to Vermont. Once in Vermont, Gose might spend five years behind bars, Cunningham said.

“There are burglaries and everything else on his history,” the officer said.
