Lincoln councilors name next town clerk

LINCOLN, Maine — Diana V. Hill is Lincoln’s new town clerk.

The Town Council voted 7-0 after a brief executive session on Monday to hire Hill, the town’s interim town clerk, to the position permanently. There was no public discussion.

Hill will be paid about $34,000, Town Manager Lisa Goodwin said.

“She has done an excellent job,” Goodwin said. “Diana is from Lincoln and is very familiar and comfortable with the people of this town.”

Hill has been interim clerk since late August, when a previous candidate to fill the job was let go after failing to fulfill her four-month probationary period, Goodwin said.

Hill succeeds Goodwin as town clerk. Goodwin was hired as the town’s manager in November 2008 after six months of interim work.

With Councilors Michael Ireland and his wife, Marscella Ireland, opposing, the council voted 5-2 to appoint Goodwin to replace former Town Manager Glenn Aho, whom Goodwin was appointed to replace temporarily on May 5, 2008. Goodwin was chosen from more than 30 candidates.

She served as town manager and town clerk from November 2008 until May 2009, when Hill’s immediate predecessor was hired.

Hill also has served as an election warden and in several other positions within the clerk’s office.
