NORTH BERWICK, Maine — Seventeen full-time workers at the Pratt & Whitney jet engine plant in Maine have gotten word that they’re being laid off.

Company spokesman Greg Brostowicz tells WGME-TV that the layoffs are effective this Friday and are the result of a slowdown in work volume. About 20 employees left the plant at the end of last year after taking voluntary buyouts.

The North Berwick plant, which employs several hundred people, makes jet engine parts for the Connecticut-based company.
